The Sweeney Sports Report
Now in its 25th year, the Sweeney Sports Report is considered the authoritative planning
tool for rights holders and sponsors to monitor Australians’ sporting interests
and the impact of sponsorship activity.
Used by rights holders, brands, event owners, manufacturers, and media and activation
agencies, the report provides the reliability and brand credibility for stakeholders
to make informed strategic and tactical decisions relating to optimising the fit
and performance of their investment in sport.
Fieldwork is continuous via a national telephone interview of 2,000 16-65 year olds
and for the first time, the report has migrated to an online environment. This provides
subscribers with a more engaging and flexible planning tool, where data can
be instantly accessed and interrogated for specific requirements. In addition,
subscribers receive an electronic Quarterly Bulletin, covering the key consumer
insights from the sporting landscape.
The key metrics captured in the Sweeney Sports Report include:
- For 25 sports – total interest levels, passion, participation, attendance, TV viewing,
radio listening, newspaper, internet and mobile
- Sponsorship awareness levels by sport (for selected sports)
- Sports event, competition and club following
- Sports related spend
- Sports involvement and lifestyle characteristics
- Imagery of sports
- Best TV coverage – and PayTV and Freeview penetration
